Storage

Storing bulk material

Silo and bunker solutions for controlled feed and buffering of bulk batches.

Buffering is what makes a line pay

A shredder fed in fits and starts draws more power and wears faster than the same machine on a steady stream. A bunker with a dosing floor therefore sits between the unloading point and the line: it takes a full lorry and passes it on at a measured rate.

On the feed side

A dosing bunker ahead of the shredder absorbs the peak and passes the material on at a measured rate. How large it needs to be follows from the biggest batch that arrives at once, not from the daily average. For material that bridges, such as film or long parts, we choose a floor with sliding rams rather than a screw.

On the discharge side

Storage behind the line means you do not have to move material out every day. A silo with a discharge screw fills big bags or a container without anyone standing next to it. For granulate that still holds moisture we choose a silo with aeration, because otherwise the batch cakes in the silo after all.

What belongs with it

Level measurement, an overfill cut-out and a connection to the control system of the line, so the shredder stops before the silo is full rather than after. That connection is missing on existing lines more often than you would expect, and it can be added afterwards without much trouble.

What this includes

  • Bunker with a dosing floor ahead of the machinetakes out the peaks
  • Floor type chosen for your materialrams or screw
  • Silo or bunker on the discharge sidebig bag or container
  • Aeration for damp granulateagainst caking
  • Level measurement and overfill cut-outstandard
  • Wired into the control system of the linethe shredder stops in time

Questions

How much room should I keep free for a bunker?

More than the bunker itself. A crane or loader has to reach it, and the dosing floor needs height underneath for the discharge to the shredder. We reserve that space on the drawing before we talk about volume.

My material bridges. What then?

Film, long parts and stringy streams hang above a screw. There we choose a floor with sliding rams, which takes the layer along across the full width instead of drilling a hole in it.

Can storage be added to an existing line?

Usually yes. The silo is not the problem; the work sits in the connection to the control system already in place, so the line stops before the silo is full. That is what we look at first.
